Thanks for a awesome sailing season!
Thank you for a great season. There is still time to complete the camp feedback survey https://www.research.net/r/SMSCLearnToSail. It is planning time for the 2023 season and your feedback is important to us!
Farewell to our Head Coach Rebecca Swan. Special thanks to SMSC sailing mom and talented artist, Joanne Logan for creating this special, custom piece of art for Rebecca, pictured below. We wish Rebecca all the best as she begins her career and thank her for her many years of service and dedication to the LTS program. The good news is, Rebecca is a member and active participant in Senior Fleet racing here at SMSC so we will still see her smiling face around!
A very big thank you and best wishes to all of the SMSC coaches as they head back to university for another year. We hope to see them back next season!
Fall programming - Unfortunately, SMSC will not be running a fall program this year. I can tell you that we are gearing up for a super exciting season next year including an inter-club spring performance program. Stay tuned for some big announcements later this fall. There are some incredible plans in the works - it is a very exciting time for our sailing community! There are fall programs running at Armdale Yacht Club, Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron, East Coast ILCAs and STAR at Dartmouth Yacht Club.
World’s in Hubbards – In case you haven’t heard, Hubbards Sailing Club, with support from SMSC, are hosting the 49er, 49erFX and Nacra World Championships https://www.hubbardssailingclub.ca/2022-worlds. We encourage sailors to go and check out this event. The Hubbards Waterfront Park is the base of operations, and there are food trucks and World’s swag on site, as well as an opportunity to see the boats up close and interact with world class athletes.
As part of the legacy of this event, SMSC is getting two new coach boats that were purchased for the event. The club launch ramp was also widened this spring as part of the legacy funding.
LTS Membership Promotion – Join from now until September 15 for the 2023 season and enjoy the benefits of the Club Membership for the remainder of 2022 season. Members benefits include early registration for LTS programs (as well as a small discount), access to our waterfront and numerous fun events throughout the year. This offer is only available for first-time members. Check-out membership options on the website: https://www.smsc.ca/membership and then contact the operations manager Kate operations@smsc.ca to complete your registration.
*Members mark your calendar for a Special Members Event featuring the band Shameless https://www.smsc.ca/club-events/shameless
SMSC Swag - Great for birthdays and dare I say Christmas gifting. Order what you like, customization available and items ship direct to you! https://smsc.entripyshops.com/ We are planning on a Lon Gundie Rashguards again next year. We will have information regarding the order process at registration time.
Thanks again to all the SMSC LTS families! We thank you for your support and we hope to see you again next season. We are planning on opening registration earlier for the 2023 season – watch for details in December/January.
A note from the Commodore - As Acting Commodore I’m happy to add my appreciation for the incredible contributions Rebecca and all the coaches made to make the 2022 program awesome. Also, to the club’s Learn to Sail volunteer team.
We look forward to building on the great work in 2023! Jim Fletcher
