Our Story

The rich history of St. Margaret Sailing Club

During the winter of 1956, Dr. Arthur Murray met with a group of friends and neighbours to discuss their desire to restore tranquillity to St. Margaret’s Bay where they enjoyed their summers. They chose to introduce sailing to the Bay in an effort to reduce the noise of outboard motors as youngsters raced each other throughout the Bay.

We’re seeking a Seasonal Club Attendant to join our friendly team at St. Margaret Sailing Club. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outside. Key responsibilities include operating the club tender, checking the moorings, grounds keeping, and tidying the clubhouse. We’re willing to provide training in some areas, if needed.

TERM: May 1st to September 30th. Part time during May and September. Full time from June 1st to September 2nd.
HOURS: 35 per week from June 1 to September 2, Wednesdays through Sundays. Part time on weekends during May and September. 
WAGES: $17.00 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay 
REPORTS TO: Operations Manager  
DEADLINE TO APPLY: February 28, 2023 

REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Possess a positive can-do attitude 

  • Experience operating a power boat 

  • Have your Pleasure-craft Operators Card (PCOC), or are willing to obtain

  • Have your Radio Operators Certificate Marine (ROC(M)), or are willing to obtain 

  • Have some schedule flexibility with occasional evening shifts

  • Sailing and sailing club operations knowledge

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

  • Operate Club tender – to check moorings and docks, and to transport visiting boaters 

  • Provide marina support - check mooring lines daily, clean and remove mussels from docks and perform small repairs 

  • Grounds keeping – mow lawn, rake leaves, tend to the garden, move lawn furniture and equipment, and take recycling and disposal bins to/from the road for pick-up 

  • Tidy & maintain building – tidy clubhouse daily, complete small paint jobs and other general maintenance tasks 

  • Hospitality support - greet members and guests, re-stock the beverage fridge, bag ice, provide barista assistance, assist with BBQs, regattas, races and other events, and assist with mooring rental administration
