Volunteer Bartenders

Volunteer Bartending is a fantastic way to know get to know your fellow members. You’ll learn everyone’s name, their stories, and their favourite drinks! Would you like to join our roster as a Volunteer Bartender? You must meet the following requirements:

  • Remain a member in good standing.

  • Consent to a background check.

  • Have a valid “Serve Right - It's Just Good Business” certificate, or a valid certificate from a different province.

    • If you need do not yet have the certificate, once your application to Volunteer Bartend is approved by SMSC’s Board of Directors, you will need to complete the online “Serve Right - Server” course and successfully complete the final test to earn your certificate. You’ll be reimbursed for the course after earning your “Serve Right - It’s Just Good Business” certificate. To be reimbursed, a copy of your certificate and course invoice must be provided to the Operations Manager.

We also ask that you complete a short training session at the Club and be willing to volunteer bartend at four Club events over a 12-month period. We hope you enjoy this fun way of contributing to SMSC so much, that you’ll help out as often as you can!

Requests for volunteer bartender availability are typically sent to everyone on the Bartender Roster a few weeks before the event date. Bartending shifts typically range between 1.5 and 4 hours long. For busier events, you’ll be part of a bartending team.

Once you are approved to volunteer as a Bartender, you will have the following privileges:

  • Open the clubhouse to all members at your discretion (provided the clubhouse is not already booked).

  • Two free drinks while on break during each event.

  • 50% off your ticket for ticketed events.
