St. Margaret Sailing Club’s (SMSC) annual keel boat regatta, The St. Margaret’s Bay Regatta (Regatta) will be held this year on Saturday and Sunday August 21 and 22, 2021. This is the weekend after Chester Race Week. This is a change from past years. Traditionally, SMSC’s keelboat regatta was held on the weekend before Chester Race Week.
The Regatta is a great event for sailors of all levels. Races will be held under three classes racing on a time on time basis. The split of the fleet between A and B handicap classes will be determined after the close of registration and there will be a C handicap class (‘Cruiser’) for those boats racing with fore-and-aft sails only and without spinnakers (e.g., Jib and main for sloops).
We are very pleased to once again have Luke Porter as the Race Officer for the Regatta. Luke is the Race Director at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron.
The person in charge (ordinarily, but not necessarily the entrant) of a competing boat must be a member of a club affiliated with Sail Canada. For those who do not belong to a club we offer a membership for $30 that allows you to compete in the regatta and in our Club’s Wednesday (August 18) night race preceding the regatta.
Up to two races a day will be held for each class each day starting at 12:00 noon. Breakfast is available Saturday and Sunday morning beginning at 8:30. After the races on Saturday evening there is an outdoor beer garden and BBQ with entertainment and kayak races. The grand finale for the day there will be a fireworks display.
Moorings for visiting boats will be provided free of charge for three days over the Regatta weekend and a total of a further 7 days at $13.75 plus HST per day before or after the Regatta. Tender services will be provided for visiting boats on their arrival and departure from SMSC and during the Regatta. Please call Kelly Pawliuk-Coderre, Club Manager at (902) 823-1089 to make reservations for a mooring and to arrange for tender service on your arrival.
All competitors are invited to the Club’s Friday, August 20, 2021 “Dragging Anchor” Pub Night that starts at 6:00 PM.
Registration is $85 plus HST for those who are members of a club recognized by Sail Canada and $115 for those who do not belong to a club recognized by Sail Canada ($85 registration plus $30 Regatta Membership). Registration, placing orders for breakfast and additional information will be available soon on our Eventrbrite page. Orders for the BBQ meals will taken and paid for at the event.
Results will be displayed here once they come in.
