The premier event each year for Canada's youth and developing sailors is the Sail Canada annual Youth Championship. Focused on the 19 and under age group, Sail Canada ensures that each year it is hosted in a different part of the country, to give maximum exposure and opportunity for young athletes from the various regions. In 2017 the event moves east, and St. Margaret Sailing Club has been selected as the host.
The timing of the event is important, as the provincial and national authorities will take the results of the Youth Championship into account in selecting their teams of athletes to progress to major events in subsequent years. This year the final week of August has been chosen. Monday 28 August will be a training day, followed by four days of racing with the last day and awards taking place on Friday 1 September, just before the Labour Day week-end. We expect over 100 of the country's best young sailing athletes to compete in what is sure to be an exciting competition.
